    The topic of recovering gold from gold-bearing solid waste was discussed a few days ago. Our topic today is how to recover gold from gold plating scrap. Gold-containing solid waste needs to be sorted and sorted before being refined, while gold-plated waste is different. The gold of gold-plated scrap generally exists only on the surface of the plated parts. When recovering gold, it is only necessary to separate the coating on the surface from the substrate.
    In addition to lead melting stripping, thermal expansion stripping, chemical stripping, and electrolytic stripping are also commonly used methods.

    Thermal expansion stripping is based on the principle that coatings and substrates have different thermal expansion coefficients. The thermal expansion creates a gap between the gold-plated layer and the substrate, and then the waste is placed in dilute sulfuric acid and boiled to make the gold-plated layer completely fall off. Taking the transistor as an example, first heat the transistor for one hour, and then cool it down. At this time, there is a gap between the gold-plated layer and the substrate. After the sulfuric acid solution is added to the pickling tank, the pickle will fall off.
     
    Chemical reagents are used to dissolve the gold-plated layer on the surface of plated parts. Commonly used chemical stripping methods include iodine-potassium iodide solution stripping method, nitric acid stripping method, sodium cyanide m-nitrobenzene sulfonate stripping method and aqua regia stripping method, etc. Electrolysis can be used to recover gold from the solution produced after chemical stripping.
     
    For electrolytic gold stripping, thiourea and sodium sulfite are used as the electrolyte, graphite as the cathode, and gold-plated waste as the anode. Through electrolysis, the gold on the coating will be anodized, and the oxide will form complex cations with thiourea adsorbed on the gold surface and enter the solution. Sodium sulfite in the solution will reduce the oxides into gold, which will precipitate at the bottom of the tank, and then pure gold can be extracted by separating and purifying the precipitate.
